Calorifier unit
Hot water is needed on shipboard every time in the galley and used by cooking, shower, feeding etc. The main purpose of the calorifier is to produce hot water for the consumers which are required it.
Calorifier can be different types: electric heating, steam heating, steam and electric heating and thermal-oil heating.
To the main particulars of hydrophore unit commonly belongs: power source (V/Hz/phase), control source (V/Hz/phase), electric heating rate (kW), electric heating dissipation (25800 kcal/hr), cold water temperature (˚C), hot water temperature (˚C), shut down temperature (˚C), design water pressure (bar), working water pressure (bar), test of water line pressure (bar), design steam pressure (bar), working steam pressure (bar), test of steam line pressure (bar), flow rate (m3/hr), tank volume (l), dry and wet weight (kg).
Below described hot water calorifier steam and electric heating type. It combines next main parts as: water tank, electric heater, steam
heater, safety valve, pressure gauge, temperature controller, thermometer, air
vent valve, drain valve etc.
Hot water calorifier schematic diagram (steam and electric heating type)
An apparatus used for heat transfer to water in the calorifier tank by indirect means, the source of heat being contained within a pipe or coil immersed in the water. Hot water calorifier supplies hot water in a large variation at immediate demand and desired rate. The calorifier is equipped with a tank of typically 2-3 hours demand, to heat stored water.
The heating of water is precisely maintained by temperature control system. Depending on the availability and utility, heating arrangement shall be either electrical or steam.
Adequate thermal insulation is essential to prevent heat losses from storage vessel, which may be standing for many hours at working temperature.
