Domestic Hot Water System
This system supplies the hot water to the accommodation for
domestic purposes.
Water is circulated continuously by the hot water circulating pump, the water being passed through a calorifier, which can be either steam or electrically heated to raise the water to the correct temperature. Top up to the system is taken from the main fresh water hydrophore unit.
The calorifier is a thermostatically controlled vertical storage and heating vessel. Heating is provided be either a bank of steam heating tubes, or a set of electric immersion heater elements. The electric heater is used when the steam heating is not available. The steam heating is controlled by an adjustable self-actuating control valve in the steam supply connected to the sensing bulb by a sealed capillary. The electric heating elements are switched on/off by the contactor in the control panel, the control signal being initiated by the shell-mounted thermostat.
To reduce heat losses the calorifier shell is insulated with rockwool encased in galvanized steel cladding.
