Both main air receivers can be used during normal operation of the starting air system. However, consideration should be given to maintaining one main air receiver with maximum operating pressure without being connected to the starting air supply line. That way, one main receiver would be a backup.
a)    Make sure all pressure gauges and instrument valves are open.
b)   Check the oil level in the compressors and check that there is no water in the crankcase.
c)    Make sure that the central fresh water cooling system is running (water at operating temperature is circulating in it).
d)   Switch the valves as shown in figure below.
e)    Select the compressors with their operating priorities (in the example, the first operating priority is assigned to the first compressor, the second to the alarm).
f)    Check the operation of the main air receiver automatic drain valves.

NOTE: In the case of the sample used, the air pressure in the main air receiver is lower than the priority start pressure but higher than the second priority start pressure. Therefore, only one compressor is running, the other is on second priority. In other air receivers, the air pressure is equal to the maximum operating pressure. Compressed air is supplied to the control air system from the main starting air receiver.
