Open Cycle Seawater (SW) mode
When
the scrubber is in "Open Cycle" mode, the overflow water is directed
past the cooler to the scrubber. The supply pumps supply the required amount of
on-board water to the nozzles in the reactor and absorber sections. The valves
connecting the scrubber wash water outlet to the water outlet overboard are
open. SW/FW operating mode changeover valves are switched so that the wash
water supply pump pumps only on-board water.
The level control valve maintains a certain amount of
water in the Residence Tank. This allows the wash water to be degassed before
it is released overboard. The analysis unit monitors the pH, turbidity, and PAH
of the effluent.
In order to reduce the turbidity and PAH contamination
of the effluent wash water, the water in the Discharge Tank is treated in a
dedicated treatment plant (Hydro cyclone). The sludge isolated during the
treatment process is collected and stored in an on-board sludge tank.
