When the ship is in port, only fuels with a sulfur content of less than 0.1% shall be used. This means that gas oil will be used, the DO daily service tank will be filled with low-sulfur gas oil and ready for operation before entering these areas.
Due to the lower viscosity of the gas oil and the density of the auxiliary engine in the high-pressure fuel pumps, cavitation can occur as the gas oil temperature rises. To avoid problems with this fuel, use a cooler on the discharge side of the supply pumps. This cooler is used in conjunction with a manual bypass valve to maintain the correct fuel oil temperature.
