The DO separator can be used as an HFO separator. Direct pumping of the supply pump from the HFO settling tank and discharge into the filling line of this tank must be established. A return line from the three-way valve will also need to be opened (how shown in Figure below). In all cases, the normal blinds will need to be removed.

It is also possible to run the HFO No.2 separator in a similar way as the DO separator.

CAUTION: When using cross-connected separation systems, the operator must pay special attention to the valve settings for the separator to operate as desired. Particular attention must be paid to the cross-connection of the DO separator and to ensure that the DO system does not contaminate the HFO or overheat the DO. Care must also be taken to ensure that the separator operates with a suitable gravity disk.
