Automation in general means the "command" and "control" of machines and systems from close distances. Its basic elements are machinery and systems, command and control elements, command and control signals, sensors and actuators, and hardware and software required for data processing. Marine Engineers need to know the concept of “automation” very well, as well as information about machinery and systems. It cannot be said that the automation system is used in an informed manner in a business that constantly sounds an error alarm. It is not possible for the Marine Engineer, who cannot manage the command and control signaling, to make effective observations, analyzes, comments, and therefore to take the necessary precautions by making the right decision. Conscious training with a well-designed Engine Room Simulator is therefore very important.
