Sea water inlets and discharges are subject for visual inspection from the internal side of the vessel during annual inspections. //DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.7 Ch.1
For renewal surveys examination of sea connections in machinery area, with pipes, valves and filters is part of the classification scope.  Special attention will be given to sea connections, sea suctions, sea water cooling pipes and overboard discharge valves and their connections to shell plating. Sea water pumps and heat exchangers are subject to visual inspection by opening up fully or partially as deemed necessary by the attending surveyor. Function and pressure tests may be required. For sea water pipes, valves, filters and pump drivers visual inspection without dismantling, combined with performance test may be sufficient. //DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.7 Ch.4
During every second bottom survey i.e. every five years all sea valves (including scuppers and sanitary discharges) shall be fully or partially opened up for examination. Overhauling of sea valves may be required by attending surveyor. //DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.7 Ch.5
