During annual surveys the control and monitoring systems for electric power generation and distribution will be tested including tests of alarm and shutdown functions and visual examination of electrical and mechanical condition. The jacketed high pressure fuel injection lines, shielding of flammable oil piping systems and insulation of hot surfaces will be checked on auxiliary engines. Where electricity is necessary for propulsion and steering the automatic start of stand-by generator set and connection to the switchboard will be tested (applies for ves-sels constructed after 01.07.1998 and all vessels operating with unmanned machinery space class notations).  //DNV-RU SHIPS Pt.7 Ch.1 Sec.2.3.1
During renewal surveys the electrical power production system (including power management system and electrical installations) will be tested for proper functioning. This normally includes generator load tests, test of parallel running, tests of generator protection relays (including trips of non-important consumers), remote speed controls and synchronizing equipment for generators and power plant interlocking systems. The extent of the scope might vary slightly based on the general condition of power production system. //DNV-RU SHIPS Pt.7 Ch.1 Sec.4.3.1.4
For renewal auxiliary engines are subjects for opening up fully or partly as deemed necessary by the attending surveyor. Visual inspection, verification of last overhaul and performance test are sufficient for generators. //DNV-RU SHIPS Pt.7 Ch.1 Sec.4.5.1
