PT 7, Ch 9, Section 3.1.5 of the LR rulefinder states that two functionally independent radars or alternative means are to be provided to determine and display the range and bearing of radar transponders and other surface craft, obstructions, buoys, shorelines, and navigational marks. One of the radars is to operate in the X-band (9 GHz) and the other is to operate in the S-band (3 GHz).

M/S MERSol is equipped with an ARPA system. The system is outfitted with two independently operating radars, one 3cm X-band radar which operates in the 8-12 GHz range, and one 10cm S-band radar which operates in the 2-4 GHz range. There are two display units located at the MNC.

In this figure the navigation system power supply system is shown, the drawing shows that the systems operate independently, and can operate on both main and emergency power sources.
