• Special breathing apparatus on ships must be stored in a separate room or closet. If there are 2 sets of breathing apparatus on board, they shall be kept in separate places.
  • Cabinets must be installed in a dry place, no closer than 0.5 m from the heating appliances.
  • Inspection of special respirators in accordance with the operating instructions for these respirators shall be performed by the crew members assigned to them.
  • Each ship must have at least two sets of firefighting equipment for each emergency batch or group. Each set of firefighter's equipment includes a self-contained special compressed air breathing apparatus.

NOTE: In ships carrying dangerous goods, the number of special breathing apparatus shall be not less than the number of members of the emergency party, and in gas carriers, for each person on board and in addition at each control station according to the number of persons employed at that station. Passenger ships and gas carriers shall be provided with two additional sets of spare compressed air cylinders for each apparatus.

  • Fire-fighting equipment must be stored in special heated rooms on the superstructure with access to the open deck.

Requirements for heat-resistant suits

  • Special heat-resistant suits are used to protect the members of the emergency party or group from exposure to high temperatures.
  • Suit sets must be kept in inserts, bags made of waterproof material. A nameplate indicating the size of the suit must be affixed to each bag. Bags with suits should be stored in a dry, heated room.
  • Suit sets can also be stored in special closets. The suit must be hung on the hanger and all the rest of the equipment must be placed in the closet cage.
  • It is forbidden to keep dirty, untidy, or incomplete suits in bags and closets.
  • Once a month, suits should be inspected, dried and returned to storage after any defects have been rectified. Suits that are wet during work should be dried without spinning. Suits can only be cleaned according to their technical instructions.
