Control measures
The controls used in drainage systems are:
- Pressure sensors, switches, manometers;
- Temperature sensors, switches, thermometers;
- Load sensors for electric motors of pumps, ammeters;
- Hour meters for pumps and oil-contaminated water separator;
- Sampling valves for bilge water settling tank, oil contaminated water separator;
- Oil Contaminated Device (OCD)of water separator monitoring;
The tightness of the three-way valve in the water line discharged by the
oil-contaminated water separator (by monitoring the control flow glass or
funnel).
The oil discharge monitor device (OCD) takes the effluent from the
separator for analysis. If the oil content exceeds 5 ppm (or another selected
range of 1 to 15 ppm), the three-way valve changes the flow, switching it from
the overboard discharge to the purified tank water collection tank. At the same
time, an audible signal sounds to warn the operator of the danger. When the separator is
running, its sensitive oil / air sensor can be flushed with clean water. To do
this, turn the Sampling and flushing lever from the SAMPLING to the WASHING
position. This action automatically controls the three-way valve in the
leachate discharge line and directs the water to the leachate storage tanks. The
oil spill monitoring device shall have a memory card that records the
monitoring readings for a period of 18 months. After a period of 18 months, the
data is automatically overwritten. The card cannot be removed from the device
because it contains this information:
