To pump the collected bilge water from the wells / voids into the bilge settling tank, follow the steps in sequence. See also the figure below:

Example of bilge water collection in a settling tank

          a) Check that the suction filter and the collection wells and their strainers are clean;
b) Make sure water is supplied from the Kingston overboard water to the engine room drainage system;
c) Open one of the suction valves of the selected drainage object;
d) Open the main suction valve;
e) Open the intake valve of the bilge water pump;
f) Open the bilge water pump drain valve;
g) Open the valves of the bilge drainage tank leading to the dirty sewage tank;
h) Open the working water filling valve and start the bilge water pump;
i) The solenoid filling valve will open briefly to fill the pump;
j) Before emptying the drain well, open the suction valve of the next full well and close the suction valve of the previously used well c;
CAUTION: The bilge water pump in operation should be constantly monitored, as it will damage the pump when it is "dry".
k) When the bilge water wells / voids are dry, stop the pump and close all valves.

The bilge water settling tank has control valves to control the water and fuel boundary. As a result, the separated fuel can be poured into the tank of the fuel drainage system, or the settled water can be discharged into the water tank of the contaminated bilge. Heating of the bilge water settling tank may also be used to promote the separation of oil from water.
