The main possible failures of cooling systems are:

  • Loss of system leakage due to damaged gaskets or corrosion;
  • Reduction or complete loss of system throughput due to sediment or other pollution (abundance of vegetation beyond the inland water);
  • Decreased heat transfer capacity of heat exchangers in systems due to surface contamination;
  • Failures of pump assemblies;
  • Thermoregulatory valve failures.

The main measures to prevent breakdowns are: continuous monitoring of control devices and timely preventive maintenance, as well as preventive repairs.
However, in the event of breakdowns and emergencies, it is necessary to act in accordance with the checklists, forms or other recommendations prepared by the company operating the ship. This set of documents is prepared in accordance with the ISM Code (International Safety Management (ISM) Code).
