The exhaust gas cleaning system stops uncontrollably when the EMERGENCY STOP button is pressed or the main power switch (MAIN SWITCH) to the OFF position is toggled without first stopping the scrubber, or when the power supply is interrupted. This is the case with such an uncontrolled stop:

  • The scrubber bypass valve opens and releases the exhaust directly into the atmosphere.
  • The scrubber suction valve will remain in the position in which it is located. If it is in the open position, the exhaust backflow will enter the scrubber. If this happens when one or more engines are running, the temperature in the scrubber would rise rapidly and could seriously damage it.
  • All the main outputs of the flue gas cleaning system are switched off. This means that software commands will not be executed for these outputs.
