• Module 1 serves as an introduction to the four modules on prefabricated timber construction, the erection and finishing of prefabricated timber buildings, the design of prefabricated timber buildings, and project management. The learning material is presented in a series of videos, which review best practices in the field. After each video, you will take a short exam, after which you can move on to the next topic. Module 1 does not include a final exam or other exercises. In addition to the videos, you will have access to the Wood4Youth textbook and links to interesting, informative topics.


    The learning objectives of the first module are

    • You know what career options are available in the field of industrial wood construction
    • You understand the benefits of using wood in construction
    • You understand the environmental impact of wood and forests
    • You can explain wood and wood products as a building material
    • You understand the different aspects of industrial construction
    • You can reflect on the future of industrial wood construction


    After completing the first module, you can move on to module 2, which will cover the production of wood elements in more detail.

    After completing modules 1-3, you will be able to participate in a practical work placement.

    The course is completed independently in Moodle with the help of learning materials. At the bottom of the course platform you will find a discussion area for this module, where you can ask the teacher questions or ask for reflections. Please note that the question area is visible to all course participants. During the course, the dates on which the teacher will be available on the online platform will be announced.

Wood is the only renewable building material, and wood products sequester large amounts of carbon throughout their life cycle.

      Teksti käy läpi metsiä ja niiden hyötyjä. Tässä osiossa keskitytään erityisesti näkökulmaan, jonka mukaan puusta rakentaminen on kestävämpää ja ympäristöystävällisempää kuin esimerkiksi betonista rakentaminen. Puu on merkittävin uusiutuva rakennusmateriaali ja puutuotteet sitovat itseensä suuret määrät hiiltä koko elinkaarensa ajaksi.
